Sam “Tootsie” Feinstein
Sam “Tootsie” Feinstein, a killer with Murder Inc. may have talked about cooperating with the law, that was the rumor anyway. Lepke, the boss of Murder Inc. didn’t like it. So, on May 10, 1939, when Charlie “The Bug” Workman, (who would also kill Dutch Schultz) came to the couple’s apartment at 154 Avenue P and asked Tootsie to take a ride with him over to New Jersey. He was never seen again.
His wife, Elsie, dubbed “Stoneface Elsie” in the papers, disappeared immediately after Tootsie vanished. The DA wanted to know why she disappeared to Florida from the scene and where she was getting $50 a week payment since Tootsie disappeared.
When Elsie returned from Florida she told the DA that she was overcome with grief at her husband’s disappearance and simply needed to mourn in private. Then someone turned in photos of Elsie frolicking on the Florida beaches with three members of Murder Inc.
